Mille S2: Paint frame with homologation plate installed?

Reproduction homologation plates are not available for my 1985 Mille S2. I'm in the early stages of a restoration and am wondering if anyone has had the experience of painting a frame with the homologation plate still installed on the bike? For that matter, the same question applies to the Nieman fork lock.

I don't want to risk damaging either item while trying to remove them to paint the chassis.

Since I have little experience with paint or what a skilled paint shop is capable of, I thought I'd solicit opinions here.

Appreciate your thoughts.

Thanks,
Herb...

Hi Herb,

A competent paint shop will be able to mask both and re-paint the frame without you or anyone else being able to see the difference.

An incompetent paint shop, on the other hand ...  :(

If you're in the States, call Steve (the owner of this site). He knows his way around a paint gun and should be able to advise.

Thanks for the tip.

I reside in Canada so I'll have to find a competent shop here in Southern Ontario. I'm glad that you think a skilled painter can
work around these "obstacles". I always thought I would have to strip the frame completely bare before painting.

Cheers,
Herb...

I have new neiman locks with keys

I did a writeup on how to remove the lock on my biz FB page in the 1977 Ducati 900 Restoration photo album. It's easy if you know how.
