Hi my name is Pierre Doman and I stay in Johannesburg South Africa. I am desperately looking for some information on a 9Hp Ducati petrol engine model 480. Since this is not a motorcycle engine I cannot seem to find any web site listing any such Ducati engine. It was manufactured in Italy by Motori Industialy Ducati Meccanica. The Serial number is DM602259 and the type is "Tipo 480" with engine speed of "Giri 2800". It is a single cylinder engine probably used to drive a water pump or generator. Can anybody shed some light on this or refer me to a site? Regards Pierre

Hey Pierre,
check out Phil Aynsley's site and You probably end up with this :

Since the pumps were named after trees, there should be a name on the plate also.
I've got the big "Pioppo" and some smaller two-strokes, most with a waterpump fitted.
Some were equipped for starting on ordinary leaded and switch to petrol.
Next week I'm going to collect the gasoil (diesel) in italy.
i'm still searching for more info on those engines.

Hi Ducadini,
Thank you for this info, I need some technical information regarding the crankshaft and the speed governor. Will you be able to assist?

Pierre,
sorry, no details found (yet) on these engines but keep in mind that these were made for use in the field : simple, strong and with use of common parts.
If You want any specific info, can't help.
But with some logical thinking You could go a long way.(nothing to do with desmo so simple :-)
If I can help with some pics or even the exploded view of the sidevalve, send me a pm.
