Imola Gas Tank for 900SS

Hi,
Can anybody tell me if the underside tank mounting brackets are dfferent when mounting an Imola tank versus the stock steel tank on an 81 900 SS. The Imola seems to sit way to high on the standard brackets and gets in the way of the upper triple tree when the forks are turned. I must be missing something. Thanks.
