G'Day,
my 860 GTS stops dead in the rain. Leave it overnight and it starts first pop, and runs perfectly. I was heading to the Superbikes, Phillip Is and got to the top of Mt Hotham where the rain brought me to a complete stop. Trucked it to Bright, next day started perfectly. Rain this weekend same story, next morning, fired up perfectly.

Where should I start looking?

Just rode my GTS through Bright and Hotham then down through Bainsdale and home a couple of weeks ago. Great stretch of road. I`d be paying close attention to the engine stop device wiring. It`s possibly getting wet and shorting. Check maybe switch block and wiring in the head light where the stop device is located. I put Suzuki switch blocks on mine and got a remanufactured stop device and mounted it under the tank.
I had a Guzzi that used to do the same thing. A mechanical marvel and an electrical swine. I would however like to thank the Moto Guzzi company for teaching me every thing I know about DC electrics. Amazing what you can learn on the side of the road with a test light and a desire to get home before dark. That same test light lives in my jacket pocket to this day.

Pull the tank and have a look at the gang plugs that connect the switch harnesses to the main harness.When you pull them apart you will probably find a green fuzzy muck between the pins and sockets. Clean and reassemble with some dielectric grease in the sockets and your problem should be solved.

I'll have a go on the weekend. I know from brief inspection that the relay in the headlight has been disconnected, so I assume there is anotherone under the tank. I am currently away from home with work, so will let you know how I go on the weekend.
