In order to improve starting and tickover i would like to try a modern carb, something that looks good, say a dellorto pumper, the engine is to Mach 1 tune , what size and model works? do i need a different manifold?

Yes get a PHBH30 - go to "dellorto carbs" in my shop www.shop.bevelheaven.com after the new year I will also have manifolds in there as well - I have them already just need to figure out pricing and load them up.
