Top bevel bearing issues

Post by bobnorton »

When I put my 250 together I was not satisfied with the nip on the bearing collar or the seal on the gasket. It appears you cant have both, and I didn't get either.I'm going to try again.IF the gasket is too thick it does not allow a nip on the collar which can then lift or rotate, if the gasket is too thin its not going to seal. One method is to not use a gasket but use a mastic joint, This will be the last resort.I'm going to reset the bevels a bit closer. measure the gap when assembled and try to make up a gasket to suit, possibly a thou or two thicker, how much nip on the gasket is needed?? or is there a shim I can put under the big bearing or collar to achieve the nip??
