Frame Question

On my 75 860 there is a bracket welded to the frame on the left side under the side cover. It is shaped just like the manifold to head gasket from the carb. Oval in shape, large hole cut out in the center and 2 holes on either side. Any idea what it was/is used for? Maybe something from an earlier application? Just curious. I have been pondering that thing for the last few weeks. Ive looked through my manuals and cant or havent found anything about it yet. I felt a little silly asking, but what the heck.
Cheers.

isn`t that where that horrendous solenoid lived for the elec start setup.used to pull the gear across and grind the crappers out of the ring gear on flywheel.

Yes, it holds the selenoid switch for models with electric start option.

Ah Ha! Thanks for that. Im glad for 2 reasons: I'm not missing anything and I dont have that electric start. I upgraded the electric start on my Norton with some heavy gauge aircraft stranded wires from the battery to the solenoid to the starter, and then added 2 more brushes to the starter itself. I effectively turned another wee wee poor electric starting system into one that is dead reliable. Even with a weak battery. Thanks for the help on that bracket. Cheers.
