Greetings. After some 16 years of begging, bugging, cajoling, and coercing, a friend has consented to sell me his 64 Ducati Diana. All manuals and extra parts come with it just as when he bought it in 64.

There is one problem I could use some help with. The kickstarter won't "catch," that is, the pawls don't seem to engage. So one must push start. I have solicited local opinions with some stating the cases must be split with others stating the problem can be addressed within the engine side case.

I know little of Ducatis and to be frank, I don't care to learn. My Moto Guzzis keep me busy. So I seek a suitable repair agency expert in Ducati singles.

Another issue I have is whether this is a narrow or wide case and what difference does that make?

If any one can answer any of the following questions regarding a 64 Diana, I would appreciate it:
1. Is this a narrow or wide case model?
2. Do the cases need to be split to repair a kickstarter not engaging?
3. Is there a Ducati singles repair facility capable of this repair (preferably in the Pacific northwest)?

your bike is a narrow crankcase . if your lucky you dont need to split the
cases only remove the clutchcover . there is a forked leaf spring that
holds the kickstartergear in place . this spring is to weak . sometimes
people put 2 or 3 springs on top of each other .
a better solution is to convert to later type coil spring setup
this coil spring is held in place by a steel bridge that gets bolted on
i know Rich Lambrechts from motofinesse does that conversion
