When I get the SSD home I want to start to clean it up and return it to original spec. I was told to get the headers and x over pipes re-chromed, but what about the mufflers can you re-chrome them?
I thought the chroming process coated on both sides ,what would this do to the inside of the conties?

I'm no expert on chroming, but from what I know the chroming process won't coat the inside of a tube. Many (most? all?) places will refuse to rechrome a muffler, especially if it has fiberglass inside of it. The fiberglass strands can contaminate the baths they use.
In fact I've heard a lot of places won't rechrome any used exhaust part due to the risk of contamination.

I have had several pair of CONTI re chromed. You need to call around to ask for someone local to you who will indeed do used exhaust parts as most will not. There is no fibreglass inside a conti. If you can;t find someone local to you send them off to AC PLATING in bakersfield california

Hi,
For those in OZ, I have just had 3 sets of headers pipes and a X over pipe along with clamps&bolts rechromed at Dubbo Electroplaters in Dubbo NSW.
They even performed a repair (bronze) of one pipe that had holed slightly.
The finish is top class and cost is very reasonable.(All up $240 OZ $$).
