Caliper question.

Much to my dismay I find I've got no front brakes!

'77 750ss, with twin bleed calipers. Are these FO8 or FO9 and what would the piston size be.
I've found fluid dripping from L/H caliper looks to me like kit time.
Worse thing about this, is the bikes only got 1200kms up, and now this ,oh well I'm sure these things are sent to test ones patience, aaaaarrrgghh! .

Yeah this is my rebuild/Resto, can be seen in bevel twins photo gallery under "My first Bevel".
I was goin' for brekky, 'bout 40 ks away but when I went to wheel it outa the shed the lever pulls into the bar, so somethin' else to test my patience-F*%#$.
Gonna chase up some kits (plural) so I'll have some spares, in the morn.

i remember-the rear brake rubber boot---
your pics are gone from the other post
didnt you do brakes when restoring-if not-here is a lesson for restorers-----rubber bits need replacing-especially brakes

Hey Steve,
don't know what it is with my picture host they seem to drop in and out, I noticed that yesterday.
Mate I know your not having a go, thats the job of my close mates .
The SS was a total nut and bolt rebuild,(don't like doin' things by halves), so its a bit of a mystery why this has happened , just gotta pull that sucker apart and ckeck it.

You have F08 calipers, 38mm piston dia. If you already rebuilt the calipers 1200kms ago and that was only months or a year or so ago, then you must have;

A). Been using something other that DOT4 brake fluid

B). Not replaced your 35 year old rusty and pitted steel pistons with new twflon coated aluminum pistons

C). Not removed 100% of the crap sitting behind the seals

My guess is one or more of the above is why you are having problems. Did you also rebuild the master cylinder? If not, do it now as well.

We stock all the bits you will need for the job including a special tool used to set the MC expansion ring in the kit.
