So I plan on cleaning and then soda blasting my UB24 carb from my Monza 250. In looking at the carb right now, it appears there is a yeollwish coating on it that is flaking off. I imagine the coating used to be clear and I might have assumed it was anodizing, but the slight yellow tint makes me think it is just a clear coat of some sort.
So how does this sound?
1) soak in yamaha carb cleaning bath
2) Soda blast
3) clean
4) Clear coat external AL surfaces
5) Rebuild with new gaskets and o-rings
I could just soda blast the outside and go with it, but I think the raw exposed AL would oxidize and eventually corode.
What coating to put on restored carb?
