lack of spark on 76 860
can someone please tell me does the engine stop device as stated in the workshop manual, affect the amount of spark that comes from the transducers to the spark plugs, both plugs were showing little intermitent sparking, or can i just assume the old transducers are had it and just slip in a set of dynatek coils i have waiting, it,s a electronic ignition model i have, i don,t want to pull the headlight apart to test the stop device if the symptoms are showing something else from someone elses experience with this, is there a way of testing the transducer with a multimeteregards darren
Darren, It's unlikely the stop device is causing the poor spark unless the battery is very weak. All it does is short the transducers to ground when the ign. is off. The ign. will work without a battery because part of that wonderful ign. stator also generates the voltage to power the transducers. Most likely your stator is starting to take a dump. You can disconnect the stop device wires at the transducers and make sure its not your problem.I think they are the green wires piggybacked on the green leads from the stator. Also make sure the plug gap is around .020"- .025" To reduce the voltage requirement. Best of Luck, Bill

thanks for your reply bill, the battery is fine, i think , it,s always on a trickle feed charge when at home, and its just over two months old, when i broke down first thing i did was put in the new plugs i always carry with me so they were set up ready to go , no use carrying feeler gauges as well when your taking half a tool chest with you just in case something happens, so if i can get the thing to kick over, is there a way to test the stator to see if this is the case, electrics are a black art to me , but it,s about time to start to grab the bull by the horns so to speak, towing home the beast is an expensive exercise, thanks again
