Hi from Qatar

Post by duques750 »

Hi Steve,

What a sensational site, have enjoyed looking at it over the last few years and now finally signed up - for good reason!

I live and work in Doha, Qatar (down the road from Dubai). I have just bought a 750 GT from a guy in Germany, which is now stored with another friend in Germany. Its a May 1972 model, originally a French bike, with sandcast engine cases, fibreglass tank, engine nr.750368, frame 750360 - a rare beast, low kms and in good nick. The friend in Germany, Mathias, I bought his 1974 Sport with 16,000kms on it last year. Mathias found the GT for me last month. He has since become a good friend.

These 2 models I have lusted after for 30 years after having had a 1973 GT back in the early 80's, still kicking myself for selling it to go travelling, and a 1000MHR in the mid 80s. I will try to get some pictures to you soon.

But, like a Greek tragedy (of a different type), I am in Qatar and the bikes are in Germany, so it will be a long distance affair for a year or 2 yet. (I have another bike here for track days and the occasional cruise, but it just ain't worth the hassle of having a classic here.)

If there is anyone in the region similarly afflicted let me know.

Cheers
Chris

Ah Halen Chris, and welcome aboard. Long distance love affairs are not too bad, makes the eventual meet up well worth the wait.
