Some pics of my "new" '75 860 GTE.

After a crash a few years ago my back could no longer take clip-ons & rearsets so I needed to find a replacement for my '77 750SS (owned since new). Luckily a friend had obtained a rough but pretty much all there 860 and was happy to restore it for me. Here is the result. The first two were taken late last year in Melbourne, on my way back from the MotoGP. It did not yet have the correct rims and tires. The next pair were taken a few weeks ago, again in Melbourne, before I rode it to Sydney. The last pair, after the 900km trip.

Looks perfect! I had a blue one that I greatly enjoyed. A much underrated bike. I think the style, which wasn't much appreciated at the time, has actually aged well and makes it a really unique machine.

I had to sell mine when I moved across Canada but made up for it by buying a 900SS.

They sold heaps of them in OZ,I still have nightmares about swoping the std high bars for Laverda adjustables,20min job till we found the factory had run the wiring through the middle of the standard bars chopper style.
BTW love the city/country horn,soft and loud for where?

Couldn't detect any difference in horn loudness or tone, despite wiring in the correct components. :-(

The 860 has a few pages in Italian Motorcycles #10, which hit the stands in Oz last week.

I just noticed your bike's posting on the forum, Phil. I have to say she looks magnificent. Congratulations and you must be glad to be back in the saddle.

i bought a 1975 860 gt ( same seat ,no elect start ) in 1977. it was repainted & everything chromed. loved that bike.
sold it 6 months later & bought a 900ss new ($3150)! still own the ss & am currently restoring.
im nearly 50 & also have clip-on syndrome.
will definitly get another gt in future-not gts-gt is the looker

Hi Phil,

Congratulations on your bike's feature article in the August Classic Bike magazine. I noticed that you have been unable to find the correct indicators for it. As it happens I have a set in my spare parts bin, taken off my long-departed 860GT.

If you still need them, perhaps we can arrange a trade for bits to tidy up my SS.
