Re: Can MSD coils be used?
No you can't use those coils on a point ignition.
That type for coil needs an electronic control to limit the primary current, to about 4amps. If you used them, the primary current would be, 12V/0.2ohms equals 60amps, or almost a complete short. It would fry the wiring.

Re: darmah timing
Nice one Harvey!
And further explained here with some graphs...

I'll go and retrieve pickup polarity from the box.
Kev
Yes Kev that is a good explanation of the use of a 'Zero Crossing ' trigger.
This type of trigger has a precise trigger point that ...

Re: darmah timing
The mysteries, of flux movement. :)
There are two ways that a magnetic pick-up can be used to trigger a circuit. As the rotor moves past the pick-up a voltage is generated, this voltage will increase to a peak, then fall to zero to change to the opposite voltage as the reluctor moves away.

Re: Crossover Pipes
The crossover pipe is included to reduce the sound level, letting each cylinder to use both mufflers to reduce the sound. Removing the 'balance' pipe has the cylinders running, with a tuned length pipe, that will allow the sound waves to work to scavenge the cylinders. This needs the carb to be ...

450 advance.
Giday Steve.
Not easy to show as there is nothing to see. There are two ways of doing it, the Bosch on the later 78-80s CDI has three defined peaks that are different distances away from the pick-up, and can be seen.
The 450 pick-up rotor uses the amount of pole that overlaps with the stator pick ...
