Re: Bevel-specific tools/spares to carry on a long trip

Hi Craig,
That route through Colorado, Utah, Nevada and into California is well worth travelling.
My advice would be to fill up at every gas station once past Denver.
They get quite far apart out there and there is not a lot of passing traffic in the more remote areas.
Have a great trip.

Re: Sport Desmo twin>single conversion?

Have a look at the Mototrans Ducati Forzas and Stradas. This was a 250 or 350 single motor in what was basically the Spanish parallel twin chassis. They are a bit heavy as singles, compared to the Italian produced models, but they do handle very well. Braking was taken care of by a disc at the front...

Re: Condor bevel drive 350 rebuild

Hi George, The con rods on the widecase 250 and 350 motors are the same. 135mm long, centre to centre. These rods are longer than the narrowcase ones, so be aware of what you're buying. Usually, the rods come as an assembly with the crank pin, thrust washers and big end bearing complete. The crank p...

Re: Condor bevel drive 350 rebuild

The kickstarter shaft on widecase Ducati engines remains in the crankcases when they are split. In fact, you could have left the return spring in place. This shaft is the first item fitted to the cases when assembling the motor and should have very little end float. When the cases are apart, check t...

Re: Frame Question 160 vs 250

A 250 motor will fit into a 160 frame, but the width of the front engine mount is narrower on the 160. You would have to make up some spacers to fit between the engine plates and the frame to take up the extra width of the 250 motor. I can't remember exactly what width these should be. I think you w...

Re: Frame Question 160 vs 250

No. The Italian 160 frame has a shorter depth to the headstock, together with a different battery tray. The swinging arm is also shorter and differently braced. The Spanish 160 frame is much the same as the 250 frame,(both Italian and Spanish), but like most Mototrans machines has the shorter swingi...

The 350 cylinder barrel was deeper with 9 fins as opposed to the 8 fins on the 250. The 450 had 10 fins. There are slight differences between wide and narrowcase 350 cylinders although they are interchangable. You may need to fit a compression plate under the cylinder to get the required compression...

Transducers

The Ducati Electronica transducers were also fitted to Morinis and are interchangable with the ones used on Ducatis.
They differ only in that they have an extra terminal that is used to power an electronic tachometer.
I have used them on Ducati singles with no problems.

If you have the usual crossover shaft fitted to your GTS you need to discard it and its linkage and modify the selector box inside the right hand casing. With reference to a parts book, remove the spindle, part no.0759.13.250 and replace it with the spindle from a late 5-speed Ducati single, part no...

Whilst it is fairly straightforward to convert an early 860 or 900 to right hand shift, it is much harder with a Darmah or late 900 engine. The motors that originally had Bosch ignition have a different selector drum fitted inside the cases. This means that there is no means of connecting up the pos...

Clutch

Do not use a bar wedged into the clutch basket. They are very easily damaged. Either get hold of the correct clutch holding tool, or make one out of an old clutch plate. Haynes manuals were particularly at fault in advising owners to hold the clutch with a bar across the tangs of the basket. Don't d...
