Hi all

New to site as member but have purused the site for a few years now.

Initially rode my Cousin's 1981 MHR. It was laid up for 25yrs + and brought from Scotland to near Norwich Norfolk by its current owner - she inherited its original owner [her brother] who bought it new, rode it arround Europe and greased it to put it in aspic so to speak on his death. That was 25yrs+ ago and the MHR was gotten back on the road by my other good Cousin who has been working on his bikes [mainly track] for years and enjoys getting max power for minimum outlay - a real art.

I have been riding the MHR for a while now as the current owner [first Cousin above] is not confident on it. The bike had only done 8000 miles from new but as a lot of seals / bearings etc really on splash oil the bearing surfaces had obviously pitted over time and leaks etc were getting worse - apart fron the annoying 6 dog gearbox hopping out of first when pulling out on to a main road!

Bike has now been stripped - engine overhauled - frame powder coated - just having fairing fitted ready to be taken off for painting.

Its original owner [her brother] had dymag wheels fitted and a bespoke twin headlight front end [made himself] which gave us an issue when trying to put back the traditional single headlight i.e. headlight bracket which is difficult to find.

To the rescue came a Ducati Owners Club enthusiast from Bury St Edmunds who wished to swap an original bracket for the twin one!

Sorry this is getting a bit long - my Cousin nearly has her 1981 MHR back on the road.

Back to me - I'm a Ducati nut - ridden most everything - selling my 1984 MHR and concentrating now back to the track after a few years of trackday riding. Its getting more expensive and I find my time taken up in prep as I won't ride anything I haven't gone through myself.

I also had a problem with my 750 GT jumping out of first gear but was able to solve it relatively simply. Take a look at the "first gear slippage" topic in the "Engine & Transmission Shop" section.
