Factory Ignition Switch

Post by cafe*racer »

Does anyone know what the factory ignition switch and keys were for the 750 Gt/Sport/SS? Aprilia, CEV, Magneti Marelli, or other? I have an older Aprilia switch and a newer CEV switch and they don't fit into the hole in my frame. Maybe Gum or someone else can take a pic of a verified original and post some pics of switch and keys.

Thanks Gum, not what I was hoping for...I think your switch has been replaced at some point. Maybe someone else will chime in here.

I should clarify, my issue is with the key not the switch. All the pictures in Falloon's books seem to show metal keys but none are close enough to tell what brand key/switch. But if the key is a replacement chances are the switch is too.

1976 900ss key

Post by tony »

key on my '76 900ss is an Aprilia - metal key with plastic handle.
the key barrel looks very similar to Gum's above - no visible brand on the facing of the barrel

My 75 750 GT came with a metal key I think it was an Aprilla lock assy. My 77 900SS had the rubber covered key as did the replacement switch I got 20yrs. ago. I still have the 750 switch around in my piles of stuff I'll try to find it tomorrow and determine the manufacturer.

The key on my '75 SS is the same as Tony's however the one you show is similar as fitted to my Lemans and Benelli Sei as is the face of your lock which seems to have the same rubber insert.

I was lucky enough to get this NOS CEV switch some time ago. Looks exactly like the diagram in the parts book, however it will not fit in the hole in my frame ('74 GT).

hey jordan
you have fallen for the ''nos'' myth--if it was nos for your model it would fit right in---yes
im sick of parts being described as ''nos''-when theyre clearly not-----
new old stock does not mean new parts made to replace parts no longer available.
my take on your switch size--i got a replacement ign sw years ago (1980)
when rewiring-didnt fit dash hole-had to make hole bigger--later replaced switch--correct size----nos may be for guzzi,lav etc=
you either make hole bigger or switch smaller

post some pics of switch and frame hole-we may be able to help

Found my old ign. switch. It matches the picture Cafe*Racer posted the key is the same but has Ducati stamped in it.I measured the threaded barrel on the switch and it is 21.84mm in dia. I think I remember trying to fit the switch in the hole in the left side frame hole and it not fitting either.Plus it didn't have enough clearance to the Dellorto carb.On my 75 750 the ign. sw. was located on the left on a bracket hanging off the front fuel tank mount.I suspect the early ones used a smaller shallower switch on the Amal carbed models.
