81 SS fresh engine

Post by Gardner »

Two rides and 60 miles on a rebuilt engine that came from a crashed Darmah. Engine oil system is modified so all oil is filtered before going to the crankshaft and heads. The primary gears and cover are Brook Henry VeeTwo items but the dry clutch is from a Ducati Monster adapted to fit.
Really makes some interesting sounds.

Wow!!!! Thats nice!! I`d be interested to know how you went about your full flow filtered oil system. I`m about to attempt something like that on an old GTS I`ve had for years. I`ve been slowly collecting bits and pieces for this project for years and nearly have all i need to get started........just have to finish off a non Ducati project I started first.
I was going to use this method: file: FullFlowConversionHowTo%20(2).pdf

Is this the method you used? Any ideas or pictures you have would be much appreciated. I`ve always marvelled at the engineering master piece the Ducati bevel engine is, but cursed with that crappy by-pass filtering system...............and maybe ignition............and maybe helical cut primary gears......................and slippery clutch................but that power delivery and sound kinda makes up for it all............

After this busy weekend is over I'll show what was done with the oil pump and filter in the engine and transmission section. I can just add to my
post about better oil flow to the sump.

Rode to Kansas last weekend for the AHRMA races at Heartland Motorsports Park in Topeka. Temps in the 90's, don't know how the racers put leathers on and go race. Parked by a pair of Panigale V4's.

Stayed in Gardner Kansas, nice town. Just outside of town is where you could decide back in the 1800's if you were taking the Santa Fe trail to the south or the Oregon trail to the north. The 900SS did 916 hot fast miles with no problems, 2428 miles on the engine now.

Changed oil after Kansas and headed for northern Wisconsin and cooler temps for the 4th of July weekend.
Really nice ride around the Turtle Flambeau Flowage. Back in Davenport Iowa Sunday night after 995 miles.
It's been 3485 miles since May 19th, I'm pretty sure everything done to the engine is going to be okay.
My favorite mod is the dry clutch, with the wet clutch I always had to put it in gear, pull the clutch lever
and kick it over till it freed up.

I can't believe no one commented about what may be the only bevel Ducati 900SS with beads on the seat! :-D
