After a 30 year wait I finally summoned up the courage to buy my first Ducati. I fell in love with the SD900 that a fellow student owned in 1981. I was enjoying myself with the usual catalogue of Japanese machines at the time but my mind always seemed to wander back to that Darmah, especially when I heard that 'thump thump thump' coming down the road.
Yesterday I took delivery of a 1981 SD900 that is in need of some TLC. I'm lucky enough now to have some time and a little discretionary income to devote so I thought why the hell not.
The plan is to post photos and regular updates as I progress. Hopefully anybody who has some experience in a similar project will take some pity upon me and offer advice where they feel I need it.
I bought the bike online, un viewed and as such it was a bit of a gamble. There are a few disappointing items already but the 'bones' look good. The first thing though is to get it running. I'm not an engineer or mechanic so this may be a frustrating time for me. So far it pops, wheezes and occasionally I get a magnificent blue flame from the pipes. I guess it's time to check all the obvious things and try again....
More to follow.
