Having undone the 4 retaining bolts and removed the washers and triangular plates I've found that the original stator doesn't want to move.
Before I inflict untold damage I thought I'd ask the collective the best way to go about the job, puller, heat, witchcraft?

Heat the cover a bit, and try slamming the cover stator side down flat on a wood surface to jar it loose. Some stators are a tight fit in the cover and require coaxing to come out.
