Conti mufflers hitting axle nuts

Hi all,

wasn't sure where to post this.

I have 900SSD and have had to space muffler brackets away from frame to stop Conti mufflers from hitting rear axle nuts under suspension travel.
As I have never seen the original mufflers (silentium ?) would I be right in assuming they had an indent in muffler to accommodate the suspension travel.

With having to use spacers it makes the muffler alignment into crossover pipe dodgy looking.

I am thinking of modifying axle ends to allow half nut on caliper side and a welded half nut on sprocket side.

How have others overcome this problem?

Yup, as you can see from the attached both Lafranconis and Silentiums have generous indents for the axle nuts.

Dunno what happens with Contis, tho'. Steve should know ...

Thanks Craig for that info.

Don't really want to take to mufflers with a ballpein hammer. :)

get some 7/16" ID AN type washers and space the Conti brackets out a bit. Or you can make up round spacers between a quarter and 3/8" long and use those like what came on 900SS....
