I have an 1982 SD that I have owned since new with its original steering damper attached. It would seem that the damper's seals are on the way out as it has started leaking oil and after taking off the damper, even at the full setting, the damping is less than what it should be.
Are they repairable and if so what is the 'trick' to disassembly? I can only presume that it must involved unscrewing the chromed rod apart but if so which way?
Tried both directions using gentle force but no indication of movement (either tighter or looser)
Whilst I haven't tried to track down an OEM at this stage, presuming that they are no longer stocked by anybody are there alternative units (other manufacturers) that would fit?
thanks
Mick
