Marzocchi leading axle fork question

Post by baddean »

Thanks in advance for the help. Yes, I've searched high and low for the answer. There's not much info out there about the early leading axle Marzocchis.
All of the manuals I've found deal with the center axle forks.
I have to replace the o-ring on the large nut at bottom of the leading axle 38mm fork.
Is it possible to remove that large nut with the fork in place? I probably can but is it a valid idea?
I realize I'm going to have to remove the socket bolt holding the damper rod and oil is going to leak (run) out. I know I have to first remove the top nut to relieve the spring pressure so the damper rod doesn't shoot out. (it doesn't)
I'm trying to avoid dismantling the front end to replace an o-ring.
Seeking the hive's thoughts.
