I've never seen a lead on the exhaust-nut :? :?
Holes drilled yes, but nothing wired
Cases had the lead.

It doesn't do much for confidence when an advert says 'lead seal intact' does it!?

Perhaps it was put there to stop the next guy over-torquing it &'

I always use a wire on the exhaust nuts to prevent them to become loose, and ruin the tread.
( But indeed in the opposite direction.....!!)

Wasn't the point of my remark : exhaustnuts didn't come wired, you had to do that yourself.
But why would anyone put a lead (seal) on it ?

And of course this one was wired wrong.

Guess Guido had to go and put some leads on the underside of those Ducatis and couldn't kneel down enough so opted for the easiest place where holes were drilled.
That bike can't have more then a few thousand k's on it. Head has to come off to do the valves and those exhaust unscrewed themselves every month.

HA, The safety wire is going the wrong way. It prevents the nut from tightening not loosening.

Could it possibly be a factory proofing indicator to indicate the exhaust is tight or maybe a post road test indicator? Most manufacturers have some proof system [paint marks, stickers, etc.] to indicate proper or finished assembly so maybe it is the way Ducati marked it as ready. OR it was a Friday post two bottle lunch crankcase seal.

My SS didn't even have holes drilled for mounting the lead seals although I have subsequently wired the exhaust nuts on after having problems with them loosening. I'm sure the 860GT I once owned didn't have them either. I would be surprised if that seal was fitted at the factory.
