For any of you guys interested in the properties of alloys, here is a great technical site that should provide many answers to your questions.

It explains issues of interest to us particularly 'Corrosion" - good for understanding the deterioration of those old Campo-type wheels and "annodising" if your interested in restoring old brake callipers and such.
