Front Tyre Clearance with a wider 18x110 tyre?

Post by Misterb »

Looking at the front tyre clearance with its fender, on my MHR, there doesn't seem to be much room to mount a 110 width tyre, compared to the 100 width which is fitted now. I don't want to fit a wider front tyre on the MHR, but I have another project.. a Guzzi which uses a 18x110 front tyre as standard, to which I'd like to fit a SS900 Desmo front fender.

I've read that folks on here do fit wider the OE tyres to their Bevel Twins, so my questions is will the SS900 fender clear a 18x110 tyre ok?

Pic of fender less Guzzi project..

The 110/80 is a touch too wide for the SS fender. On my old 900SS racer I had to make some external brackets that bolted to the fender from the top and I cut the mounting ears off of the fender. I did this mostly to be able to run slicks back in the day. Air-Tech make a bunch of different fenders, they probably have something suitable.

Thanks for the reply, I'll keep looking for a similar but slightly wider fender.. pity as I really like the styling of the SS900 fender.

hi Misterb: my MHR had Phantoms 100 at front 130 at rear; can't get the same sizes anymore so I went with Avon. I remember you had to ditch your 30 plus year old Phantoms too; mine also looked brand new but had to go. Nowhere near as sexy as the Pirellis but they have many good references so I though I'd give them a go.

I have now Bridgestone BT 45 in 100/90 and 120/90 on the wheels, my experiences with those tires on other classic bikes had been so good, so i decided, i will give them a chance on the MHR...
