81 MHR

Post by Ducatiimola16 »

I need some answers for a mate,

A mate has ended up with a MHR 900 but is a bit confused about the year. The engine and frame numbers point to it being an 81 but the frame has side plate lugs in the rear carb area that are standard features of the 82 version. The seat unit does have the side plates which look like 82 model stuff. This isn't something that has been fitted after it came out of the factory either, it's as it left the factory.
Whats going on? I know the factory mixed stuff up a bit, but have you lot heard of this before?

Cheers

The lugs are standard from the 900ss frame I think - my 1979 has them on, and of course the first models had no side panels.

As far as I know the 900 Replica, then the MHR employed a standard 900ss frame without mods - hence your mate will have some spare bits.

I think I would go by the frame number.

Of course other items will date it as you know I am sure, goldline calipers or black, red mudguards or black, chrome indicators or black, pantah dashboad or later, chrome and polished fork legs or black lowers, solid lazy S or broken, twin seats or single seat with cowl and more.....
