SD & SSD frames

Hi Steve

Yeh, this doesn't surprise me. I can well believe that at the end of the Darmah production run there could have been unused 'SSD' frames around, and the factory simply used these for standard Darmahs.

Unleaded fuel in the UK

Hi Regular 95 unleaded is fine. If you're of a nervous dispositon or intending working up a lot of miles, you might want to use some additive such as Castrol Proplus, but I don't think it's really necesary ... I did once fill with Shell Optimax, but the bike ran so badly I haven't repeated the exper...

SD or SSD?

Hi Macca These are very late numbers (the highest recorded Darmah frame number is generally reckoned to be 953160, the highest engine 906992), and most SSDs appear to have been made in two batches, both earlier than this - the latest on the BevelHeads/Robert Miller register is 951672 (frame) and 905...

A Faster SD

Hi Will Well, for starters ... 40mm carbs and Conti silencers were the standard 'straight-from-the-factory' mod. There were also higher lift cams available, and some people fitted K&Ns - but to what effect I don't know ... After that, I suspect you're into 'proper' tuning ... But I'd have to ask...

Speedlines and Campagnolas

OK, this is what I understand to be the situation – most of this comes from Mick Walker, btw. The problem with the Speedlines was, in essence, a temporary manufacturing fault – not a fault in the basic design or the specification of the material. It only affected some within a particular batch; but,...

Flywheel puller

This is the advice that Andrew Jones posted to the Bevelheads list fairly recently: "I believe there are two types of puller thread: M52 for narrowcase (for models upto 1967) and M62 for widecase (1968 and after). Your R/T is a widecase, so the latter should be correct. Andreas Nienhagen in Ger...
