Re: 860GT Right Side Cover...stuck??

As others: DON'T whack the case any harder. It won't do any good and may do damage. If the bolt is still in there, you may ultimately have to drill its head off. Which is time consuming and needs to be done carefully.* But, if it's just the socket part of the bolt that is damaged, there is another w...

Re: Lower bevel gear and spindle

Let's take the spare-parts book of MHR on THE site :-D. TAV9 shows the complete bevel factory.<snip> Yeah, agree: always best to refer to parts by their numbers rather than just a description ... :) The parts in red are the ones that ducadini is talking about. Me, I thought you meant the 'lower bev...

Re: SSD Paint codes again

Maybe the reason for the low number produced was because they were too pretty? Sounds perfectly plausible to me :-D Making what was seen to be a compromise machine was always gonna be tricky, to be honest. And then I don't think the exploits of a certain Stanley Michael Bailey Hailwood helped much ...

Re: SSD Paint codes again

<snip> I have found a couple of posts from years ago that code is VW marathonblau-metallic (L96M). My question is has anyone on forum used this paint code and is it a true representation of the original colour? Hi Mark, That's the reference I have, altho' I know it has also been suggested it was a ...

Re: spark plug caps!

Yes (to NGKs, that is ...). It's what I use on my Dramah and my Laverda.

You need to check whether you need resistor caps or not. I think the MHR came with both at different times?

Look at the range you have to chose from! :-D

Re: 860GT Rear Wheel Drum Brake Spacer Quest for Clarification

The "mystery" piece, now likely identified as #185 in the infamous 860GT parts manual, has an outside diameter that exactly matches the outside of the inner race of the sprocket bearing(s). This would make sense, as it will keep the bearing from contacting the inside of the swingarm on that side. I...

Re: 860GT Rear Wheel Drum Brake Spacer Quest for Clarification

<snip> Looking at the questionable drawing in the 860GT parts manual, the rear wheel has three distance pieces: - # 190 goes outside the wheel assembly between it and the swingarm - # 185 appears to sit outside the wheel assembly at the sprocket, and it is not clear to me which piece of mine relate...

<snip> the stepped spacer is in the Flicker pics, and is the lonely orphan ... <snip> )I'm just really bamboozled at the presence of that durned stepped piece <snip> Ok, got you, Richard. (FWIW, the technical name for that feature is a 'counterbore'). Still mystified as to where it came from/where ...

Re: 860GT Rear Wheel Drum Brake Spacer Quest for Clarification

Three spacers are involved, per my Flickr pics: 1. The headed spacer, which will reach perfectly flush through both bearings when installed 2. The unstepped spacer, which fits perfectly between the two bearing flats, and which slides over the headed spacer 3. The stepped spacer, which throws a monk...

Re: 860GT Rear Wheel Drum Brake Spacer Quest for Clarification

I ask for clarification on a certain spacer. <snip> Leftmost is the spacer in question, it has a "stepped" hole, the larger end of which fits nicely on the non-headed end of the headed spacer. The third pic shows the stepped hole on the mystery spacer in closer detail. It would seem to be where it ...

Re: central bevel gear extractor

The engine has clearly been apart before, quite possibly more than once, and to hazard a guess, whoever did it made a pigs ear of it. Yep, happens, especially with mechanics who are more used to working on Japanese machinery. Mind you ... Many years ago,I left my 860 at a so-called Ducati specialis...

please dont tell me i need to split the engine.....?? You don't :-D .
