Re: Request for advice reference slipping clutch
I read an article from a DIOC news letter from the mid eighties which described modifying a bevel twin 900ss motor to (GASP)belt drive for racing. He mentioned clutch slip and talked about drilling several holes in each steel plate which apparently cured it.

Re: stator winding resistance
hi again. I had a similar problem once and if you are using a digital multimeter , go and get it a new 9 volt battery and you will see the numbers from the bike that you should. I did that recently and my static volts of battery went from fully charged at 14.8 vdc to 12.7 vdc. I then measured the ...

Re: stator winding resistance
Phil,
So far is not very far in this case. That is, the bike is in the process of going back together after a 21 year slumber. So, it works in the garage with the regulator putting out about 15 vdc, and the alternator 130 vac at 3000 rpm. Not sure if the regulator works as well as the alternator at ...

Re: stator winding resistance
Phil,
On the new stator? After mounting in cover and tightening bolts to 70 in/lbs. I measured the wires to chassis with a nine volt meter to be open in megohm range. Will measure wire to wire and report back.
Peter

Re: stator winding resistance
Recieved and istalled the new "DUC stator" from Euromotelectrics yesterday. Now charging well. We'll see how it works once a few miles have been covered.

stator winding resistance
Folks,
1982 900SS 2 wire stator resistance from lead to lead is 1.4ohm and from lead to cover is about the same, 1.3-1.4ohm. I'm thinking it has terminal insulation failure? what are my options for repair/replacement? I've called several electric motor repair shops in my area (Schenectady, NY) with ...

resistor plug caps
Searched for this but couldn't find any recomendations for use of resistor spark plug caps with the Bosch ignition. Anyone use them? I've got a set of NGKs which are 5Kohms I believe. Will they do harm?
thanks,
Peter

Re: outbd crank support bearing
Mine had a 6204Z with one side only shielded. Shield mounted toward outboard side and next to steel ring oil deflector. Purchased a blind hole puller which worked great. Good luck with yours!

Re: outbd crank support bearing
Thanks for the help. I'm thinking 200 degF max heating? Don't want to damage the ignition pickups..nor remove them if possible. The sealed bearing is a good idea. Is this supply the only one for the crank?

outbd crank support bearing
The bearing on the outboard primary side is rough and needs replacing. Any idea on the best way to liberate the old one from the case? Special tools? Heat? press?

Re: Positive Crankcase Ventilation
The breather is a labyrinth and has no check valve to prevent the engine "inhaling" when the piston are on the upstroke. The volume of the cases is sufficent to prevent pumping at normal revs if the ring seal is good. A one way valve wouldn't hurt if it is large enough to handle the volume of air ...

Positive Crankcase Ventilation
I've had small weepy leaks on my motor since new. It does not appear that the crankcase is under vacuum as (I think) the breather has no check valve. Anyone install one?
Thanks,
Peter
