Happens often :lol: . Its just fuel being ignited by a spark caused by the coil being energised then de energised when you switch it off, just what the ignition system would do at the correct time when its actually running.

Just part of the "charm"

Where are your mixture screws set on the carbs??
My old girl ('78 Darmah) did similar after mucking about with the carbs.
A good starting point is 2and 1/2 turns out from closed ;)

Its a tapered shaft, a swift "tap" with a wooden mallet on one side will usually pop it off ;)

Just a ditto on the above. My old girl will pop sometimes if you turn the ignition on, don't start it and turn it off again. After 180Kms or so you hit reserve and NEED to get offf the seat :roll:

Dave, initially ( about 18mnths ago btw) it was the rear cylinder, this time it was the front. I only put 2 and 2 together after checking all sorts of things and then finding the (Iridium) plug all fouled, as a last check after all else faild to fix the miss. I've been having fouling problems too.
