all 3 wires should be connected directly to the stator. IF you have the right stator then there would be 3 posts sticking out that the wires connect to.

no idea but if you got that much in there, and you had not reached reserve as you say, before you get overly confident on a very long ride I would get to at least that point again and look inside to make sure the reserve tubes are still in place. You can also run it low again, bike on side stand or ...
