Re: 750 Sport, New Motor, Burning Oil

Ray,

Just wanted to say thanks for your help. I don't have access to other bevel drives to verify configurations, and obviously I'm having problems with machinists who are/were known as Ducati specialists and who could be trusted to do top quality work. I'm afraid that I'm starting down a slippery ...

Re: 750 Sport, New Motor, Burning Oil

Ray,

Couple questions...

Why is it important that the spring pack be resting on the head, given there is such a small support pad for it on the head?

Could you be more specific about valve to guide clearance? The 860 shop manual states .0005" - .0022".

Where did you get the 80-88 lb for seat ...

PMs Stuck in Outbox

Steve,

What would cause a private message to get stuck in the outbox & not get delivered to the addressee. I was trying to send a PM to a fellow lister and the message is just sitting in the outbox for about 12 hours so far. Matter of fact, I tried sending this message to you as a PM & it is also ...

Re: 750 Sport, New Motor, Burning Oil

Ray,

I think you are on to something. Last night I pulled the engine out of the frame and pulled the rear head, cyl, and piston. This morning I disassembled the head & noticed a substantial amount of oil in the intake manifold - it seems that on the rear cylinder the low point is in the manifold ...

750 Sport, New Motor, Burning Oil

I have owned this '74 Sport since Apr 1975, parked it in '88, started a ground-up refurbishment around 2000, finished last year, and have only had the chance to ride the machine 50 miles since then. Last week I pulled the spark plugs to see how all looked in there & found oil on the plugs. As I was ...

Re: Ignition Switch Boot

Oh, I didn't think of that! Bloody Italians! :)

I'd follow the numbers. You could always verify the numbers with a multimeter. The schematic shows the connections inside the switch for the 3 positions.

Re: Ignition Switch Boot

Dave,

Just took a closer look at the 860 schematic I referred to earlier & the ignition switch depicted has 6 terminals instead of four like on my switch. Sorry for any confusion.

Looking at your picture & comparing it to the schematic, looks like a couple of your wires may be installed in the ...

Re: Ignition Switch Boot

Dave,

The chassis electrical on the 860s is very similar to my late '74 Sport, which had the same key switch & rubber boot as what you have pictured. The three positions of the key switch are on, off, park; the park position only illuminates the instrument lights, tail light, and a low wattage ...

Ran my 750 bevel for years without a flywheel with no idle problems. There seems to be plenty of mass in the crankshaft without it.

Ignition Switch Boot

Looking to replace the boot that covers the rear of the ignition switch on my 750 Sport. Emailed Bevel Rubber about it a year or so ago, said he was on it but haven't seen one yet. Any reasonable substitutes appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe in St Louis

Re: It's dead, Jim.

Dave,

The flash relay is a headlight flasher relay. When a momentary button on the handlebar switch is depressed it will turn on the headlight, I suppose to be used as a passing warning. My '70 Fastback had a button like that on a Wipac switch.

The device you have labeled as a horn relay is part ...

Vehicle Identification Tag Questions

I have a '74 Sport under restoration. The original Vehicle ID Tag was destroyed many years ago but I have a blank replacement that needs stamping. My questions are as follows...

1) Is the correct size for the charicters 1/8" (.125")?

2) I recall my machine was made in July of 1974. For date of ...

Actually I joined the list a year ago or so. Own a '74 750 Sport, purchased from original owner in April of 1975 with 3900 miles on the clock. I was 20 years old - flogged the bike hard. Parked it for a few years, then drug it out again for another flogging until 1988 (+30K miles) when it started to ...
