Electrex

Hi JSey

Just picked up your post. John just could not get it to work! If he can't, nobody can. Electrex have been very difficult and so I have taken it to Trading Standards under "Fit for Purpose" (hence the long delay). Your support may come in useful to us both if you're willing to get involved ...

Electrex UK

I have been doing battle with Electrex UK regarding the purchase of an RR51 regulator/rectifier for my '80 900SS.

This component does not work on my bike and according to John Fallon of Mdina Italia probably never will.

Can I get Electrex to offer any constructive help (other than 'send us your ...

Backfire!!!!!!!!!

Problem solved. VERY embarassing. I am fessing up on line to cleanse my soul! Inadvertantly managed to set the timing on exhaust stroke. Half a dozen kicks and she was away, burbling like a good 'un.

I have completely re-built this bike in the past, so I should know by now.......

Ah yes, I agree, but I was just following the instructions for setting the timing for a RITA, i.e. bring rear cylinder to TDC, rotate to 35 degrees BTDC and allow a gap of 5.5mm between reluctor and pickup. Have I misinterpreted/missed something?

Backfire!!!!!!!!!

Just tried to start the bevel ('80 900SS) having fiddled and fettled with the timing. Set the RITA at 35 degrees BTDC which is recommended I believe.
Result - big bangs and kickbacks - ankle just intact!

Very recent re-bore and valve overhaul (under 500 miles ago) so everything should be fine ...

Well, first of all a big thanks to anybody that has helped me, here or on other forums....you know who you are!

Finally got to the bottom of this. John Fallon, of Mdina Italia fame has just told me that the RR51 is NO GOOD for bevel 900SS's. You have to use an original part. So thanks to Electrex ...

You're really into this, now aren't you!!!
I have this nagging suspicion that there is a loose connection elsewhere. Everybody else I've been in contact with seems to think that what I have done so far is OK (including earthing the battery).
The other wire out of the old regulator is red, and I ...

OK. Me again.

I have voltage between +ve terminal of battery and fuse (both ends) with key switch ON (as in ready to start the bike) but how do I check from the fuse to the key switch? As I mentioned, it was OK last week.
There is nothing on the wiring diagram to indicate that I need to earth the ...

Hi Dean,

Thanks for your reply. The fuse appears to be OK - perhaps I should try another just in case.

I am assuming that the connection to the key switch is OK as the bike was running OK until last week when the battery died due to no charging.

For me, testing is a big problem as I don't really ...

Reg/Rec help

Posted this last night in the wrong section:

Hi everyone - new to the forum.

Can anyone tell me how to wire up an Electrex RR51 reg/rec to my 1980 900SS?

I've got the easy bit - yellows to alternator, red/green to battery, but with the white connected to the charge light, via the brown lead ...

Reg/Rec help

Hi everyone - new to the forum.

Can anyone tell me how to wire up an Electrex RR51 reg/rec to my 1980 900SS?

I've got the easy bit - yellows to alternator, red/green to battery, but with the white connected to the charge light, via the brown lead (originally from the old reg/rec), I get zilch - no ...
