Re: 1978 Darmah Cush Drive Problem on the Road
After finding some pictures of the wheels and how the cush drive carrier should be screwed to the wheel and shouldn't be able to rotate separately at all.... I think it's time for a U-haul 😑 I don't know what it's holding on by, but if it's wiggling then those screws are broken/loose and I don't ...

1978 Darmah Cush Drive Problem on the Road
Hello! So I decided to take my 1978 Darmah on a northeast road trip and rode it from Virginia to Rhode Island over the course of the last 2 days. The last 50 miles or so of my journey to this point I thought I felt some subtle weirdness in the drivetrain, but was tired and tend to be paranoid anyway ...

900SD Sprag Clutch Bearing?
So I'm pretty sure I'm hearing the beginnings of the "coffee grinder" noise coming from the left side of my 900SD's engine. I'm not worried about digging into it eventually, but I was planning to ride the bike in the 2024 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride on May 19th and doubt I can have the parts ...

Re: New Member from Virginia, USA - '78 900SD
Steve, I don't think it came up, but I'll probably get one of those here soon as a winter project. Thanks!
wdietz186, Good to know... I think as long as I can avoid moving the pickups it actually doesn't look too bad. And got new choke pistons as part of the rebuild kit!
On the valves, is there ...

Missing dowel/bushing between cylinder and head
So I removed the head from the horizontal cylinder of my 1978 900SD Darmah to replace the valve seals... removed the rockers, got at the seals, cleaned up the head since it had a lot of burnt oil residue inside it (using plastic and brass brushes on a Dremel... even with the brass I was wary of ...

Re: New Member from Virginia, USA - '78 900SD
Thanks Craig!
I really appreciate the insights, exactly the kind of tidbits I was hoping to pick up here -*!^-
Yeah, I was thinking I would do a lot of things at once and end up removing the heads when I do the valves and valve seals, but since it only seems to be the front cylinder getting oil ...

New Member from Virginia, USA - '78 900SD
Hello! My name's Matt and I live in Northern Virginia in the US, a little ways west of DC. For a living I'm mostly on a computer, but in my spare time I enjoy working with physical objects and making things fit together and work just right (hence Ducatis, very satisfying to set them working just ...
