860GT Sooty strange plug question

Hi All, I am noticing a strange effect on both my spark plugs. One side of the insulator below the electrode area is relatively clean and the opposite side is sooty. Like a night and day effect. Like shining a flashlight on a billiard ball from one side. Any ideas ? Spark is good from Sachse, carbs ...

Re: Why Are Modern Motorcycles so UGLY??

P.S. I have an 860gt and I am convinced that the side panels are actually uglier than the tank. The tank on my 860 was redone nicely in solid red and is not that hideous. In fact with the aluminum side panels I made , the tank shows off the rear bevel nicely and Is not the problem I imagined.plus it...

Re: Why Are Modern Motorcycles so UGLY??

I have made a related observation by watching YouTube videos of "supercar fails" where owners of high end ferraris lamb's and McLaren's smash them up in parking lots for entirely stupid reasons. These are new cars and have a lot of plastic on them. They are automatic trans and full of blue...

860 gt Moving forks up 5mm in Triple Clamps??

Hi all,
I think I read from Steve to move the forks up by 5mm in the triple clamps...For the novice, what would be the expected effect of such a change?
I am going to replace head brgs and that would be the time to do this.
Thanks,
Kara

Re: Why Are Modern Motorcycles so UGLY??

I have been thinking about the long term value of mototcycles--and the long term value of a bike is aesthetics. If the 750ss green frame looked like a ninja from a decade ago- all spiky fairings and humpy gas tank-- and given its performance--you could not give one away.

Re: 860GT Hard to find Neutral with motor running

Hi all. It turns out that the problem with the gearbox was a mirror problem...I had installed a nice C R G mirror on the left side and the pivot swivel on the mirror was preventing full travel of the clutch handle. It's like thinking you are unlucky because you keep finding bird poop on your shoulde...

860GT Hard to find Neutral with motor running

Hi All, I am finding it hard to come up out of 1st gear and into neutral when fully stopped. I have to pull up really hard and then pop all the way into 2nd. A couple of times at a stoplight , I have had to just hold the clutch in because I could not get neutral. As soon as I shut the engine off , i...

Re: 860GT runs rich --- try smaller pilot ( #55 now)

Hi Ducadini, I just put the #55 s in the PHF32 carbs which are fully rebuilt. My air filters are clean and valves adjusted etc. Sachse unit seems to be working well. In any case I started up with 1 turn open on idle screws and it idles nice. Was slightly spitty until it warmed up and then smoothed o...

Re: what do you love

Quite simply JS Bach. Mozart is mostly fluff--there is little I can remember five minutes after hearing. Beethoven was magnificent. But Bach was pure distilled genius in an autistic way. I think he wrote music for himself primarily .

860 GT Proper Swing Arm Grease??

Hi All,
What is the proper swing arm grease to use? I know in the nortons you don't use grease, but oil... So I don't want to goof it up!
Sincerely,
Kara

Re: 860GT runs rich --- try smaller pilot????

Hi Steve, I have not forgotten about dropping the needle, however people do talk about alternative pilot jets and I am trying to understand the principle , if one exists, upon how such changes were determined in an effort to comprehend my options. As I understand it , the 900 Darmah was standard wit...

860GT runs rich --- try smaller pilot????

Hi All, I have bought some #55 and #52 pilot jets to try to cure rich idle. My 860 has the standard #60 jets installed at the moment ... Steve at BH says "just turn the idle screw in ..." So I am wondering why Dellorto has so many pilot jet choices if its just a matter of adjusting the scr...

Re: New ignition system: need advice!

Hi Ashley My 860 is harder to start esp when medium warm. I am finding that when really warm I just crack the throttle a bit and kick, trying not to excite the accelerator pumps. If its medium warm it needs the enriches again for a moment. I am still learning what kind of porridge baby is willing to...
