Hi All,
The 860 is coming along nicely. I have noticed that when warm , the free play in the clutch cable increases substantially when the motor warms up completely. If I set the cable to have some discernible play when cold, 20 minutes later there is a lot more. So my shifting is good when ...

Re: Head Work PNW or West Coast
Hi,
In Portland OR there is Baisley Performance , Dan Baisley. 503-289-1251 . He did the head on my 850 Commando and did a superb job. He is a craftsman and a perfectionist. Not cheap but I would easily trust him with my bevelheads . He is also a very sweet human being.
Cheers,
Kara

860GT Clutch Basket play , excessive?
Hi Everybody,
I have the clutch out of the 860GT. I put a new locking tab washer and torqued the nut to spec. I was going to put the clutch plates in and I noticed some rock in the basket. Is this normal until the clutch plates and springs put pressure on the basket? In the sense of seating it home ...

Re: 860 GT Sticky Clutch
Hi Everybody,
Thank you. I think I will have to go in and have a look see. I know when I replaced the hub on the Norton , it was a much nicer clutch . Although this one is not really bad at all, for peace of mind it needs to be inspected. Maybe new springs also.
Thanks,
Kara!

Hi Steve and Craig---
I did not split the cases--just new sleeves, rings and a very very light valve lap. So , it is a fact that I did not look at the basket nut...

860 GT Sticky Clutch
Hi All,
I have a clutch question: My clutch is smooth and adequately disengages when the lever is pulled. However it sticky for a moment and then gets free. If you have it in gear and just roll the bike using your feet, you can feel the clutch get unstuck and then roll freely. So do the plates need ...

Hi craig
Good news! I have metric feelers, but I convert to inches to understand their significance!
Thanks!

860 GT Rod Big End Float lateral Spec???
Hi Everybody,
I decided to visit my pistons and barrels and also look at the con rods. The rods have approximately .033" lateral float between them. That is to say if I push them to one side of the crank , I can get a .033" feeler gauge in between the rod sides. The Haynes says a little clearance is ...

LED sealed beam 7" Conversion for 860GT
Hi Everybody,
I got a 7" model VCm3 LED headlight from Vintage Car. It replaces the 6014 sealed beam unit. The LED is replaceable . It is about 3/8" deeper than the stock unit but fit easily into my stock 860GT bucket. The light draws about 17 watts which equates to 1.5 Amps of current, as opposed ...

Re: Why Are Modern Motorcycles so UGLY??
P.S. I have an 860gt and I am convinced that the side panels are actually uglier than the tank. The tank on my 860 was redone nicely in solid red and is not that hideous. In fact with the aluminum side panels I made , the tank shows off the rear bevel nicely and Is not the problem I imagined.plus ...

Re: Why Are Modern Motorcycles so UGLY??
I have made a related observation by watching YouTube videos of "supercar fails" where owners of high end ferraris lamb's and McLaren's smash them up in parking lots for entirely stupid reasons. These are new cars and have a lot of plastic on them. They are automatic trans and full of bluetooth and ...

860 gt Moving forks up 5mm in Triple Clamps??
Hi all,
I think I read from Steve to move the forks up by 5mm in the triple clamps...For the novice, what would be the expected effect of such a change?
I am going to replace head brgs and that would be the time to do this.
Thanks,
Kara

Re: Why Are Modern Motorcycles so UGLY??
I have been thinking about the long term value of mototcycles--and the long term value of a bike is aesthetics. If the 750ss green frame looked like a ninja from a decade ago- all spiky fairings and humpy gas tank-- and given its performance--you could not give one away.

Re: 860GT Hard to find Neutral with motor running
Hi all.
It turns out that the problem with the gearbox was a mirror problem...I had installed a nice C R G mirror on the left side and the pivot swivel on the mirror was preventing full travel of the clutch handle. It's like thinking you are unlucky because you keep finding bird poop on your ...
