Re: '78 darmah sd - what's this noise?
ok, update:
and i think the fix will be a bit above my paygrade. (now if i had a real shop and real tools, maybe it'd be different...) but it will take at least a payday to get someone else on the case, i suspect. 😢
pics show the story; all the easy/inexpensive fixes look ok already - the clutch ...

Re: '78 darmah sd - what's this noise?
hi steve,
thanks for the reply. with a heat gun and tapping on a razor blade, i was finally able to get the starter motor cover off. i don't think i dented anything.
so, re: spring, selector fork, shift for eccentric and gear selector shaft - if i need these, it seems you have the correct spring ...

Re: '78 darmah sd - what's this noise?
bonjour, craig; thanks for the reply!
so, i will try a little heat to remove the cover; the hard rubber mallet thing has already proved unsuccessful. not going to use a torch, but a hot air gun. might be a little safer.

dashboard wiring issue? generator and headlight indicator lights always on
hi all!
my '78 darmah seems to have recently developed an issue w/the dashboard lights - the generator light won't go off; and i believe it's still charging - when i went for a ~60 mile ride a couple daze ago w/the headlight on, i stopped twice, no issues restarting, headlight still bright. when i ...

Re: '78 darmah sd - what's this noise?
hi all,
reviving an old thread because i'm hearing another strange noise (w/o my earplugs - heh!); it's noticeable when i'm going very slowly - such as backed up in traffic - it seems to be related to wheel rotation, as you can hear a consistent clank/rattle noise at a steady beat as you're inching ...

Re: darmah - leaky 36mm dell'orto carb (and headlight reflector repair?)
thanks; i'm sure 250 will be more than sufficient.
doug s.
i believe the carbs on this bike were swapped out for the original 32mm carbs. would a 250 work with the complete float valve assembly, even if something different is in there now? and/or are you still confident that a 250 is the right ...

Re: darmah - leaky 36mm dell'orto carb (and headlight reflector repair?)
ok, so this carb is a 36 phf nd - do i have to pull it apart to verify the size of the float valve assembly?
thanks again,

Re: darmah - leaky 36mm dell'orto carb (and headlight reflector repair?)
thanks for the tips; i will check things out. re: gas in the oil; i thought about that, and will check smell. but, i don't think much would have gotten in, it was only 15-30 minutes of leaking going on. and, w/full synthetic, and then giving the bike a good run; i'd think the oil would be ok. but, i ...

darmah - leaky 36mm dell'orto carb (and headlight reflector repair?)
hi all!
well, i was doing some headlight work the other day - replacing the bulb with one of those new-fangled led types, (this one works like a charm, btw), and deciding whether or not to replace the bosch headlight reflector, which has about a 2"x2" area at the bottom that no longer reflects ...

Re: 860gt best spark plug? Champions anyone?
hi steve,
i'm going w/the 7 heat range. but the plug listed in the ducati service manual - the bosch w7b - is actually equivalent to the ngk 7 heat range.
thanks,
doug s.

Re: best sparkplugs?
hi rob,
well, i ordered a set of bp7sh's and the bpr7hix's. i think i should gap them per ducati spec, not per how ngk gapped them - even ngk says it's possible that the vehicle mfr may have a different spec. i'm also going to gap the plugs that are in there now, before i make a final decision.

Re: 860gt best spark plug? Champions anyone?
fab - that's what i was thinking, but my bike has the hotter plug in the front. and, unlike my buell s2, whose front cylinder is in the way of the rear, on the ducati, w/the front cylinder close to being parallel to the ground, and nothing in front of the rear cylinder, i suspect the rear cylinder's ...
