Rubber cushion for the gas tank

Post by Daniil »

Hello, I am looking for a rubber pad that cushions the rear of the gas tank on a Mark 3. It is missing on my bike (69 Widecase with touring tank), causing the tank to bounce on the spine of the frame. I would like a photo if someone has one, so I could make the pad myself. Better yet, if someone could suggest where I could buy one. Thank you. Dan

Well, that is exactly the problem. The part is missing from my bike, and I have no idea how it should look like. I posted this, so someone could show me a picture of it or something. Dan

would the rubber look like a square block with a hole in the center and one side cut off making it like a square horseshoe so to speak? that would push over the frame ?

Hi Daniil,

The part number of the part you're after is 0440.83.030 (and in Italian it's called 'una guarnizione').

It's really a 'something of nothing', though - just a flat square of expanded foam or rubber, 12mm or so thick. So you can always just substitute something similar.

Otherwise, try Andy Nienhagen http://www.desmo-ducati.de/. He's got it on his parts list under this number, but unfortunately with no price against it - which, I'm afraid, normally means none in stock. But he'll do his best - he speaks English, btw.

Marc Parfait may also be able to help: [email protected].
And Mario Sassi could probably find you something: http://www.oldracingspareparts.com

Otherwise, Damien Birch - contact as Martin's message - is often looking for new and obscure things to make :-)

Thanks everyone for your replies. I was unable to get the original part, so I ended up cutting one out a block of rubber myself. It worked out well, the tank is nice and snug now. Dan
