coat exhaust pipes?

Post by rjk40 »

Hi Good Folks and fellow Bevelheads,

Later on in my resto, I am installing new exhaust system I purchased through Steve from Keihin in the U.K.

I would like to do what I can to mitigate the inevitable blueing on the pipes near the cylinder heads.

I have heard that pipes can be coated on the inside to minimize the blueing; anyone have experience with this?

I used to use Blueaway on my 1969 Norton Commando back in the 1970's, and it worked somewhat, with the blueing eventually coming back.

Anyone with experience with inside coating of the pipes, who would share their experience, I would be grateful. Now is the time for me, whilst I am not ready to install them yet.

Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Richard in Malabar, Florida

I kinda like the bluing of the pipes, makes `em look tough I reckon. But I hear of some people using ceramic coating on exhausts. My understanding is that it has some sort insulating qualities and the surface temp of the pipe is lowered. I have no experience with it however, just passing on what I`ve heard.
