Howdy from the UK

Post by Nix »

Hello all! ^>^

Great to be here after finally finding another Ducati to own and ride. Back in 1984 I bought my first Duke, the 860GTS which wasn't running but only took a day to fix (dodgy wiring around the transducer, if I remember correctly). What a brilliant bike that I loved throwing around any corner I could find, happy days indeed. :vroom:

Sold it a year later and it wasn't until around 1986 that I then found an 860GT which, again, was a good experience. Sold it a year later (er, I was going through mucho bikes in those days  )!
Finally had to have another Ducati so in 1986 I bought my 3rd, a 900SSD with black and gold Mike Hailwood type fairing. Had brilliant sounding straight through Contis and this one I kept for three years, which was very unusual for me: :~

A couple of weeks ago finally found another Ducati, an 860GTE this time. A bit of a "basket case" which hasn't been run for at least 15 years, by the looks of it, and is going to need a lot of TLC to get her back on the road but we'll get there! Looking forward to the forum. :rad:

my Dramah is my first bevel experience, but looks like you've had a bit more, and still come back for more ! :-D

seems to be a bit more interest in the 860's these days.. have a look at these links for a couple of other people recent projects..

how much of a basket case is yours?

and in case you havent found him yet, Paddy is a good source of 2nd hand bits in the UK http://www.ducatipaddy.com/index.html

have fun with your project!

Many thanks, matey! Just now registered on UpNorth and, yes, I've been wondering where I am to source a few bits n pieces so Ducatipaddy could very well come in handy. Fleabay lookin expensive and sparse. Just ordered this morning some side panel badges from the States, new battery, etc but now looking to source K&Ns, chain, clutch cable etc etc.

Perhaps a bit extreme calling the bike a basket case, it's looking sorry for itself as it hasn't been used for perhaps 15 years + but it's 95% complete. Only just got it and trailored it back home. When having a better look, found that someone in the distant past had taken out the rear plug and covered it with just the cap, doh! However, oil wasn't contaminated/emulsified in any way so having a cover permanently over it certainly saved a lot more hassle. As always with bikes like these, you're bound to find a few surprises, good n bad..
