Which year were electric starters fitted to the 900SS from?
I am getting rather too old for kick-starting...

I understand that the first 860 electric start bike was the 76 860-GTS and as far as I'm aware the left side casing and all the e-start parts can be used on any bike up to 82. If you want to buy a 900 desmo-headed bike then you are looking at an 82+ S2 or MHR Mille
