I just changed the oil filter with an UFI 2549500 and placed a new gasket 0759.49.865 , but I got a bad oil leak between the oil filter housing and the oil filter cover, just in the back of the housing. It seems the gasket slips forward at that position, a few times screwing the nut I stopped because the oil cover displaced decentralized backward, but once fixed in the right position I still have the oil leak. This is my first time of an oil filter replacement on a bevel twin, maybe I did some mistake, but I can't realize what. Have I to use some gasket sealing to keep the gasket in position?
Thanks
Giovanni

oil leak
If the SSD oil filter is the same as all the rest of the square cases and I think it is, that is, not a spin on, make sure the centre post that the filter fits to is screwed down. The center post that the filter fits over can be removed and if it is loose the oil filter cover will sit higher and not compress the seal. I would imagine that regardless it would screw down when you tighten the cover screw but worth a look any way. Start with the simple things first.
Giovanni, The stamped steel filter housing can distort and pull the center down if overtightened. You can take a large dia. punch or piece of bar about 20mm dia. and bend it back out if you support it so the center part is off the workbench and tap it out from the inside to bend it back out.
Or you could remove the tube it bolts to and file off a mm. or so. Both ways will allow the cover to compress the oring seal so as not to leak.
There were some machined aluminum housings around but I don't know who makes them anymore. Maybe Steve can get them.

Thanks a lot wdietz186
I suspected the oil cover was out of center but I tried to rotate it and the oil leak is still in the same position, looking to the back cylinder, I will check the oil cover and the connecting tube too
Ciao

What wdietz186 says is what I do, as well as to replace the oil filter seal and the crush washer under the bolt. I have seen a plethora of caved in covers...

Problem fixed, thanks a lot, it was the oil cover deformed and out of centre, I just placed a long M10 bolt, two large washers and nut in the cover and fixed it in a vice trying to give it the original shape, and it worked.
I added a bit of Loctite gasket seal just to maintain the gasket in place while tightening.
No more leak now. Thanks again, I can move to the next problem

Vee Two made the spun Ali housings. I've used them for years and you never have the problem again. I notice Brook Henry is selling some on ebay now...$50 Aus. They aren't black though, but i guess you can paint them or get them anodized if you were worried about it. I"ve just left them as they are for my squarecases as I prefer the ali look.
