Even with good valve sealing,ign timing etc. it will never idle really well because the carbs are just too big for reliable low speed running. The combination of intake length and lots of valve overlap mean a weak vacuum signal at low rpm. 32's or 36's would be a better solution and you probably wouldn't notice a difference on the top end.
