(Just moving this topic over from another thread).
Here's a (rather poor) photo showing the early and late footpeg location (on the left side):

Hey Craig, thanks for posting these photos.
It is worth noting that on the EARLY photo, the footpegs are mounted directly onto tabs welded onto the frame ala 900SS and the LATER photo, the footpegs are mounted onto an interesting little bracket whch bolts to the frame at that funny looking serrated deal on the frame.
I have been lookingo for a set of these later brackets to use as a pattern to duplicate, as many folks absolutely HATE the early position of the SSD as well as 900SS, and they are a very elegant solution.
If anyone has a set of these later style footpeg brackets that I could borrow then return please advise via email.

Darmah SSD Later style footrests
Hi
I would be very interested on buying a set of the "later style" footrests/brackets etc for my SSD - I have a 1980 which uses the early style - they break my knees!!!

Another thing!!
Hey Steve
I sent you an e mail the other day regarding "straight" inlet manifold for the rear cylinder - similar to the MHR.
I am now using an Odyssey battery from my 1997 900SS in my SSD and it has saved a lot of space.
Do you do them?

Guys I feel really good about being able to help out a few SSD owners with this info, I just obtained an SSD that had the early footpeg arrangement, It was crippling! So I thought I would chase the elusive later mounts.
I FOUND SOME... they are the genuine artice and are NOT too expensive either.
Please contact Try (spares) or Mike (owner) of gowanlochs in Sydney OZ (refer to Steves links).
The story is that years ago they purchased quite a few sets from the factory and have had them (yes Left AND right sides) sitting in a box on the shelf.
They still have a few sets so give them a call and please tell them Grant directed you.
Hope that helps everyone, they would be very much a pain to fabricate, and who doesnt want factory items.
I will also add, the adjustability they give makes the bike a real pleasure to ride on a long run. I took my lady and luggage last weekeng for a 600k jaunt and had nil discomfort from the seating /ergonomics. You really can adjust them to suit.
hope that helps you guys out
