750GT oil strainer clarification > RC vs SC.

Post by unclewilly »

I have had recently two oil strainers sent me for my 750GT 1974. One was too short, the other too long??
I am perplexed?? I am aware that the later roundcases had a longer strainer fitted, the earlier ones had a shorter strainer. Can anyone provide some info. on the engine numbers ref the changeover. From my records my engine should have the longer strainer, but it clearly isn't this one. I am not convinced the first strainer wasn't an 860 strainer...so another question is......are there 3 strainer lengths out there?
The length of my removed oil strainer from the top of the bolt head base (top of the thread) to the end of the strainer (not including the spout) is 160mm.

Filter woes

Post by jonduc74 »

I am also looking around for a new filter, as my one is, case to end of filter, 174mm long, and the shorter ones just do not reach?

Gowanloch Motorcycles say they can supply hand made item, crafted from aircraft alloy, around the AUD $235 price.

I will try and post a photo of the two different sizes I have come across.
