860 GT Rear Hub > 750 GT?

Post by geodoc »

The brake drum on the 750 GT I'm restoring is deeply grooved, deep enough that it can't be machined flat. An 860 GT hub / drum came up on eBay with what appears to be a smooth drum surface.

Question is, is an 860 GT rear hub the same or interchangeable with a 750 GT hub?

Somebody know?

George,
Yes they are the same for the drum brake models.
750GT and 860GT part numbers are the same. (0795.80.453 bare hub with bearings)

Heh Dean,

Yeah, pondering whether to just skim the surface after lacing it up and maybe live with a few very shallow grooves. Being a rear brake, I'm too, too concerned. Trying to avoid "picking fly s**t out of the pepper" with things. It's easy to do. Still, good to know and thanks.

George,
If it were a front (drum) brake I might be more concerned about the grooves. Being a rear brake, at least in my case, it wouldn't get used as much as the front so I wouldn't be concerned about cleaning it up and using it.
Your call, but if the grooving is shallow the brake shoes will bed in either way once it's cleaned up.
