Roundcase covers on a Squarecase Engine?

Post by Sammy »

Just wondering if anybody knows for sure if a set of roundcase covers will fit on a squarecase engine?

Thanks, I would have thought it would be the opposite. The clutch side looks like it would fit better.

Thanks for the response!

Primary side is the clutch side. Timing side has all the spinny gears and things that turn the cams.

Just for anybody interested, looks like a guy in Japan ground down a set of squarecase covers to look like a set of roundcase.

He has done much more than grind things down,he has cast new covers and has a buttload of finish work to do on them. Good idea though.

Sammy,

Had a look at the covers, and I'm with Bill. There is some serious finish work to do with those before they would be presentable. I guess some sort of cover is better than none if you don't have one, but surely someone on the planet makes a decent replacement casting ???

There was a guy in OZ who cast some up a few years ago, but it turned out he had used an original cover to make a mould, and not factored the shrinkage in once cast.

The result was, only some of the holes lined up the rest needed to be filed or drilled to fit.

So i'm wondering, does anyone know if they are available anywhere ??

Regards
Rick

I don't read Japanese but I think these are the finished cases http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cO-M9Dr4 ... ure=relmfu

If you need to replace them, they are sold here http://www.oldracingspareparts.com/twin ... 0-ss-1975/
