750 GT Oil Screen Question

Post by youngjohn »

Hello all, this is my first post.
I have recently acquired a 1974 750 GT and on changing the oil, I noticed that the end of the oil screen fitted is the longer, thinner (12mm) type. Within a box of spares included with the bike is another identical screen with the same thinner end.
On reading this forum it appears that the bike may need to be fitted with the shorter fatter (14mm) type. Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm just concerned that if it is incorrect, the oil may bypass the screen.
Thanks for any help.

Hey John,
This thread might be of some help.
http://www.bevelheaven.com/~BB/phpBB2/v ... umo+filter

Shorter/fatter type (14mm diameter x 8mm )
Longer/thinner (12mm diameter x 13mm).
The easiest way to check would be to remove the corresponding plug from the right side engine case and look to see how the filter tip fits.

There were three part numbers for the sump filter.
0755.88.125 Engine # 750.001-750.404 (approx)
0608.49.800 Engine #750.405- (approx)
0755.49.800 (no other info)
My information does not indicate what the dimensions are for these unfortunately.

Hope this helps,
Dean
