Cincinnati Monza Junior 160 Owner

Post by tburke »

Hello, new member, first post. I just acquired a 1966 Monza Junior 160 in rough shape.(I think its a 1966, not certain) Motor looks decent but the rest of the bike is ready for some love. I have a box of parts which I haven't gone through yet, as I just got the bike yesterday at our local British bike club vintage bike show. :)

I think it needs a lot of electrical rebuild and overall restoration. I think my plan is to get it wired and running first and leave it in "Patina" for awhile before doing a larger restoration. Do you think there is value in keeping it stock or doing some of the mild changes people on the forum have done (round headlamp, different tank, seat, etc.) ??

What is a good source for the battery?
I have one side cover (toolbox) and am looking to buy the other.
Controls and switches, what is a good source for those?
I have a few local Ducati guys who should be able to help me. I'm going to have to lean on them for their expertise.

Here are a few pics that I have so far.

Your call, but personally I'd leave it as it is. Ok, it's not the most loved of Ducatis. But it exists as a design statement of its time. Otherwise, rather than do a half-way job, go radical and change it to something quite different. I still reckon Craig Kenfield's Monza Special leaves a lot to beat. This link will give you a flavor:

Pretty much everything should be available from the usual sources: Steve here at Bevel Heaven still has a few bits and pieces for the singles. Otherwise, its people like Guzzino (http://guzzino.com/dubesi.html), Nigel Lacey (http://www.laceyducati.co.uk/ducati-parts), Barry Jones (http://www.classicducati.com/), Phil Hitchcock (http://roadandrace.com.au/) etc. You'll soon get to know 'em!

If you get stuck, swing over to the Ducati singles forum (and treasure trove) at http://www.motoscrubs.com/. There's a LOT of knowledge over there!

Thanks Steve. It appears that is a discontinued battery from Yuasa. You still have stock? How old is the stock item? :-) Thanks

no it's made by MK/SVR batteries. I get em every 2-3 months a dozen at a time.

ah, I see now. Okay cool. And that fits in the Monza Junior slim little battery tray eh? I suppose I'd better measure first to ensure. Its tiny. I appreciate the assist.
